I love stuff. I do not like my materialistic side. But there is a tiny part of me that just aches to have the homes I drool over monthly in Metropolitan Home or Elle Decor. I love gleaning tips from the magazine, and am constantly frustrated at how small my decorating budget is - how little I an accomplish towards my goals.

I hate stuff. I hate the clutter that accumulates over the weeks and months and three little kids and... though I am not a naturally organized person, I find that clutter makes it virtually impossible for me to summon up the latent organized genes deep within my being. When we have too much I simply let it pile.

I hate cleaning. I really do. When I have to clean my house, I want to scream. When I sweep my floors (sometimes three to five times in a day) I want to hit something. I cannot understand how, apparently, dust flees from my friends home and piles in the corners of my own.

Stuff is overrated. Stuff is necessary. Cleaning and purging is vital.

I'm readying for my annual yard sale. And this year, I'm really trying to have the attitude of "even if I don't make money, at least I won't have this stuff anymore." And I've sworn to myself that, at the end of the sale, I won't take anything back. Not. Any. Thing. I put it out there for a reason, and I need to let it go.

Life is like a garage sale. Often we hang onto things we need to let go. Sometimes things remain important to us, when they've become junk. Sometimes we let something old rule our lives - and leave little room for the new.

Purging is an important part of living an abundant life. I am able to give away and make room for God to continue to bless. I am able to be content in little - trusting that God will provide exactly what I need. And I will have less to move under my  bed when I decide to sweep.

Ironically, it is often by decluttering the compartments of both home and heart that we find our lives more full.

"Life is like a garage sale..." I love where you go with that. (smiles)
